Verse 48 of Chapter 4:

(in worship), but He forgives except that to whom He wills; and whoever
sets up partners with Allah in worship, he has indeed invented a
tremendous sin.
Verse 88 of Chapter 6:
This is the guidance of Allah with which He guides whomsoever He
wills of His servants. But if they had joined in worship others with
Allah, all that they used to do would have been of no benefit to them.

Those who avoid great sins and shameful deeds, only (falling into) small faults,- verily thy Lord is ample in forgiveness. They (Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and
their monks to be their lords besides Allah, and (they also took as their Lord)

And Shaytan will say when the matter has been decided: "Verily, Allah promised you a promise of truth. And I too promised you, but I betrayed you. I had no authority over you except that I called you, and you responded to me. So blame me not, but blame yourselves. I cannot help you, nor can you help me. I deny your former act in associating me (Shaytan) as a partner with Allah (by obeying me in the life of the world). Verily, there is a painful torment for the wrongdoers.''
